Description

What is Ti-6246 titanium plate?

Ti-6246 is the titanium alloy Ti-6Al-2Sn-4Zr-6Mo. The numbers describe nominal additions of 6% aluminum, 2% tin, 4% zirconium and 6% molybdenum by weight, with titanium as the balance. This is an alpha-beta alloy whose properties depend on processing and heat treatment.

This listing is for plate-format requirements. State the required product form as well as the alloy: a bar or forging specification does not automatically qualify a plate. For the material background and comparisons, see our Ti-6246 titanium alloy guide.

Plate dimensions and supply inquiry

The existing catalogue range below is a starting point for quotation, not a stock list. Confirm thickness, width, length and condition together; the maximum dimensions are not a promise that every combination is available.

Ordering item Catalogue range or information required
Thickness 3–100 mm; specify thickness tolerance
Width Up to 1000 mm, subject to the selected thickness and condition
Length Up to 6000 mm; state finished size and cutting allowance
Delivery condition State the required heat-treatment condition and governing specification
Surface and geometry Specify finish, flatness, edge condition and any cut profile or machining drawing
Quantity Number of plates and/or total mass, with delivery destination
Inspection Material certificate, dimensional report and any additional tests required by the order

Material specification: match the alloy and product form

SAE AMS 4981 concerns Ti-6Al-2Sn-4Zr-6Mo bars, wire, forgings and forging stock in the conditions defined by the specification. It should not be presented as a general Ti-6246 plate certification. Send the specification and revision applicable to the plate on your drawing for review before ordering.

Also keep Ti-6246 separate from Ti-6242 (Ti-6Al-2Sn-4Zr-2Mo). A similar name or a standard for a different alloy is not an approved substitution. If your drawing uses TC19 or another designation, provide the governing material specification so composition limits, product form and acceptance requirements can be compared.

Delivery condition and mechanical properties

Specify whether the material is required in an annealed, solution-treated and aged, or other defined condition. Confirm which conditions can be supplied for the requested plate dimensions. Heat-treatment terminology alone is not a complete acceptance specification.

Tensile strength, yield strength, elongation and fatigue performance depend on the processing route, section size, test orientation and condition. Use the agreed specification and batch results for acceptance. A single advertised strength or maximum temperature should not be used as a design allowable for every plate.

Inspection documents and traceability

Include required documents in the inquiry so their availability and scope can be agreed with the quotation. Identify the need for chemical analysis, heat or batch traceability, mechanical testing, dimensions and flatness, and any nondestructive examination. State the test method and acceptance class where required.

If a particular inspection certificate type, third-party witness or customer approval is needed, confirm it before production. These requirements are order-specific; listing a standard on a product page is not evidence that a supplied batch has been certified.

Choose plate or bar from the drawing

For round stock and turned components, review the Ti-6246 titanium bar listing. Plate and bar can have different manufacturing histories and inspection requirements. Choose the form specified by the design rather than assuming identical properties across forms.

If the drawing specifies Ti-6Al-4V, see Grade 5 titanium plate. It is a different alloy and is not offered here as a direct substitute for Ti-6246.

Request a Ti-6246 plate quotation

Send the alloy and applicable plate specification, thickness × width × length, condition, tolerances, quantity, inspection requirements and destination. Add a drawing for profiles or machined blanks. Availability, minimum order quantity, lead time, packaging and delivery terms will be confirmed for the requested order.
