Description

ASTM F67 Grade 4 Titanium Rod – High-Strength Medical Titanium for Critical Applications

For Grade 4 rod, send diameter, cut length, quantity, annealed or cold-worked condition, dimensional tolerances, surface requirements and the ASTM F67 edition. State the required material report, EN 10204 document type and inspection acceptance criteria. Any medical end-use requirements must be reviewed separately.

Prepare the material purchasing requirements, review GR23 Ti-6Al-4V ELI bar as a separate listing, or request a quotation. A different grade is not an automatic substitute.

The ASTM F67 Grade 4 Titanium Rod is a commercially pure titanium product developed specifically for high-stress and high-reliability applications. It is the strongest among the four unalloyed titanium grades (Grade 1–4) defined by the ASTM F67 specification, offering the ideal combination of biocompatibility, strength, corrosion resistance, and formability. This makes it especially valuable for medical implants, surgical instruments, and advanced industrial use where human safety and long-term performance are non-negotiable.

🔩 Product Overview

  • Material: Commercially Pure Titanium

  • Grade: Grade 4 (CP Titanium)

  • Standard: ASTM F67

  • Purity: ≥ 99.5%

  • Form: Rod / Bar

  • Condition: Annealed / Cold-Worked

  • Surface Finish: Polished, Pickled, or Ground

  • Custom Machining: Available per customer drawings

ASTM F67 Grade 4 titanium rod is raw material for projects that specify unalloyed titanium. Confirm the standard edition, grade, delivery condition and batch acceptance documents. Suitability for a finished medical device requires the device manufacturer’s material and process requirements.

⚙️ Key Mechanical & Physical Properties

Property Value
Density 4.51 g/cm³
Tensile Strength ≥ 550 MPa
Yield Strength ≥ 485 MPa
Elongation ≥ 15%
Elastic Modulus ~105 GPa
Hardness Rockwell C ~20
Thermal Conductivity ~16.4 W/m·K
Melting Point ~1660°C

These characteristics make Grade 4 titanium an excellent alternative to titanium alloys when high strength is required but alloying elements are undesirable—especially in biological settings.

🧪 Chemical Composition (Typical)

Element Max Weight %
Oxygen (O) 0.40%
Carbon (C) 0.08%
Nitrogen (N) 0.05%
Hydrogen (H) 0.015%
Iron (Fe) 0.30%
Titanium (Ti) Balance

The chemical table is reference information. Delivered composition and applicable limits must be checked against the specified edition and the batch material report.

🏥 Applications

  • Orthopedic Implants: Hip joints, bone screws, spinal cages

  • Dental Implants: Titanium posts, abutments

  • Cardiovascular Devices: Pacemaker housings, heart valve frames

  • Surgical Instruments: Forceps, scalpels, bone rasps

  • Aerospace & Marine: High-strength non-magnetic structural components

Material selection for aerospace, marine or medical projects depends on the governing specification and application. Confirm the required condition and documentation rather than treating this listing as an end-use approval.

🛠️ Custom Fabrication & Support

Our titanium rods are available in:

  • Diameters from 2 mm to 60 mm

  • Lengths up to 3000 mm

  • Tolerances: As per ISO 2768, or tighter upon request

  • Surface options: Polished, matte, or CNC machined

Submit drawings for any required machining. Dimensions, surface finish, material documents and the delivered state must be agreed; machining stock is not supplied as an approved implant merely by using this grade.

🌐 Reference & External Resources

🔬 Why ASTM F67 Grade 4 Titanium Rod Is Preferred in Medical Device Manufacturing

Grade 4 is an unalloyed titanium grade. Medical-device compatibility, sensitization risk and finished-component validation must be assessed for the actual product; the grade name alone does not establish those outcomes.

Cold working changes strength and ductility. Specify the delivery condition and agreed tensile, yield, elongation and fatigue requirements using test data relevant to the product dimensions.

🧯 Corrosion & Biocompatibility Performance

Corrosion performance depends on surface condition and the actual exposure. Requirements for ion release, service life and medical-device acceptance must be specified and supported by the relevant evaluation.

MRI compatibility must be evaluated for the finished device and its design; material identification alone is not an MRI safety determination.

🔍 Quality Assurance & Documentation

Agree the required inspection methods, sampling or coverage and acceptance criteria before ordering. UT, eddy-current or additional inspection is subject to technical applicability and confirmation. Additional document requirements can include:

  • Ultrasonic Test Reports

  • 3.1 / 3.2 Certificates

  • Raw material traceability

  • RoHS / REACH compliance declarations

Confirm heat-number marking and the scope of traceability required for the order.

📦 Packaging & Shipping

Rods are vacuum-sealed or packed in oil-paper wrapping (as per application), and then stored in reinforced wooden cases to ensure safe international shipping. We offer air and sea delivery options with full customs clearance support.
